Regular Season Round 1: Cagliari CUS - Venezia 72-75

A very interesting game took place in Cagliari. It ended with only three-point home defeat of Cagliari CUS (0-1) to Venezia (1-0) 75-72 on Sunday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Cagliari CUS won third quarter 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Venezia dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Cagliari CUS's 36. Venezia forced 21 Cagliari CUS turnovers. Strangely Cagliari CUS outrebounded Venezia 35-20 including a 26-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Slovakian center Marie Ruzickova (189-86, agency: LBM Management) fired 18 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. American guard Shannon McCallum (177-87, college: Charlotte) chipped in 10 points and 7 rebounds. Four Venezia players scored in double figures. Venezia's coach Andrea Liberalotto allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American forward Asia Taylor (185-91, college: Louisville, agency: LBM Management) produced 27 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import guard Tricia Liston (185-92, college: Duke) added 19 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Venezia's next round opponent will be San Martino in San Martino di L which should be an easy win for them. Cagliari CUS will play on the road against Napoli and hope to win that game.
