Regular Season Round 1: 36ers - Taipans 87-97

Date: October 10, 2014
And what about another game where Cairns Taipans beat Adelaide 36ers 97-87 on the road. It looked good early as Adelaide 36ers took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Cairns Taipans had a 25-16 second period charge getting the lead and Adelaide 36ers were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 87-97. They outrebounded Adelaide 36ers 41-29 including 26 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Torrey Craig (198-90, college: USC Upstate) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 7 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Scottie Wilbekin (188-92, college: Florida) contributed with 23 points for the winners. American point guard Jamar Wilson (185-84, college: Albany) answered with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and swingman Mitch Creek (195-92) added 16 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Adelaide 36ers. Five Cairns Taipans and four Adelaide 36ers players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Cairns Taipans' next round opponent will be United in Melbourne which should be theoretically an easy game. Adelaide 36ers will play on the road against New Zealand Breakers in Auckland and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
