Regular Season Round 6: Gigantes - Pioneros 64-74

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 9th ranked Gigantes' (2-4) home loss to eighth ranked Pioneros (4-2) 64-74. Gigantes were ahead by 2 points at the halftime before a 40-28 second half run of Pioneros. They outrebounded Gigantes 44-31 including 18 on the offensive glass. 29 personal fouls committed by Gigantes helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international swingman Romel Beck (201-82, college: UNLV, agency: Interperformances) notched 19 points to lead the effort and American-Puerto Rican point guard Denis Clemente (183-86, college: Kansas St.) supported him with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Even 14 points and 8 rebounds by American power forward Sean Carter (205-88, college: Massachusetts) did not help to save the game for Gigantes. American-Haitian forward James Anacreon (201-90, college: Valdosta St.) added 13 points and 6 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pioneros moved-up to third place, which they share with Huracanes and Halc.Xalapa. Gigantes lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth position with four games lost. Pioneros' next round opponent will be league's second-placed Soles in Mexicali and it will be for sure the game of the week. Gigantes will play at home against Gansos (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
