A very interesting game took place in Haifa. It ended with only one-point defeat on the road of Maccabi Ashdod (0-1) to Maccabi Haifa (1-1) 74-73 on Saturday evening. Maccabi Ashdod was ahead by 3 points at the halftime before a 23-14 third quarter run of Maccabi Haifa. They also forced 21 Maccabi Ashdod turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Jeff Allen (201-87, college: Virginia Tech) who helped to win the game recording 18 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. The former international Dagan Yavzuri (193-85) contributed with 14 points, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winners. U.S. Virgin Islands-Puerto Rican forward Ivan Aska (200-90, college: Murray St.) answered with 15 points and 7 rebounds and American guard Terrel Harris (195-87, college: Oklahoma St.) added 15 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Maccabi Ashdod. Five Maccabi Ashdod players scored in double figures. Maccabi Haifa will have a break next round. Maccabi Ashdod will play at home against Maccabi Rishon and hope to win that game.
