Regular Season Round 6: Abejas - Barreteros 104-88

There was a small surprise in Guanajuato where twelfth ranked Abejas (2-4) defeated 10th ranked Barreteros (2-4) 104-88. The game was mostly controlled by Abejas. Barreteros was better in fourth quarter 29-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Abejas players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. The game was dominated by American players. Forward Steffphon Pettigrew (195-89, college: W.Kentucky) notched 31 points and 4 assists to lead the effort and forward Reginald Larry (198-86, college: Boise St.) supported him with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Even 19 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) by center Jerome Habel (208-85, college: San Diego St.) did not help to save the game for Barreteros. Devon Pearson (198-84, college: SMU) added 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Abejas and five Barreteros players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Abejas moved-up to tenth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Barreteros. Abejas' next round opponent will be higher ranked Halcones Rojos (#6) in Veracruz and it may be quite challenging game.
