There was a minor upset when Venezia (1-1) was defeated at home by San Martino (1-1) 69-59. The game was mostly controlled by San Martino. Venezia was better in second period 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. San Martino forced 23 Venezia turnovers. American swingman Jasmine Bailey (172-90, college: Ill.-Chicago) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points and 5 rebounds. The other American import guard Taysha Pye (175-89, college: William & Mary, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 14 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Slovakian center Marie Ruzickova (189-86, agency: LBM Management) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds and Romanian forward Simina Mandache (185-81) added 19 points in the effort for Venezia. San Martino's next round opponent will be Napoli at home. Venezia will play against Umbertide and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
