Regular Season Round 7: Correcaminos - Huracanes 75-73

There was a small surprise when Correcaminos (4-3) edged Huracanes (4-3) in Ciudad Victoria 75-73 on Thursday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Huracanes were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Puerto Rican forward Joel Gierbolini (203-89, college: USC Aiken) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 16 rebounds. American point guard Marquis Ayala (178) contributed with 12 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Correcaminos' coach Andres Contreras used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Nigerian-American power forward Suleiman Braimoh (203-89, college: Rice, agency: Haylett Sports) answered with 19 points and 6 rebounds and American guard Marcus Elliott (191-84, college: Louisiana Tech) added 17 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Huracanes. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Correcaminos moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Huracanes. Correcaminos will face again Huracanes in Tampico in the next round.
