Regular Season Round 5: Fukushima - Akita NH 81-102

Everything went according to plan when fifth ranked Akita Happinets (4-2) outleveled on the road 10th ranked Fukushima (1-5) 102-81 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Akita Happinets. Fukushima was better in second period 24-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Fukushima 42-29 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Akita Happinets looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Ruben Boykin (201-85, college: N.Arizona) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). His fellow American import swingman Richard Roby (198-85) chipped in 22 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Akita Happinets players scored in double figures. Akita Happinets' coach Makoto Hasegawa felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Terrance Shannon (203-90, college: VCU) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds and point guard Masaya Karimata (178-88) added 24 points and 8 assists respectively for the hosts. The victory was the third consecutive win for Akita Happinets. They moved-up to third place. Fukushima lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the tenth position with five games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
