Regular Season Round 4: Rouen - Bourg 68-81

There was a minor upset when higher ranked SPO Rouen (2-2) lost at home to twelfth ranked JL Bourg (2-2) 81-68 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by JL Bourg. SPO Rouen was better in third quarter 19-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded SPO Rouen 40-27 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. SPO Rouen was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for American forward Steven Smith (203-83, college: La Salle) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). The other American import guard O'Darien Bassett (189-86, college: Troy, agency: Three Eye Sports) contributed with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Four JL Bourg players scored in double figures. Italian-American forward Joe Trapani (203-88, college: Boston Coll.) replied with 13 points and 8 rebounds and American point guard Michael Thompson (177-89, college: Northwestern) added 17 points in the effort for SPO Rouen. JL Bourg moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 9 other teams including defeated SPO Rouen. JL Bourg will face ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. SPO Rouen will play against Gravelines-Dunkerque and hope to win that game.
