Regular Season Round 8: Panteras - Jefes 113-93

There was an upset in Aguascalientes where higher ranked Jefes (4-4) were crushed by twelfth ranked Panteras (3-5) 113-93 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Panteras. Jefes was better in fourth quarter 34-26. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 30-of-36 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game, while Jefes only scored seven points from the stripe. Panteras looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Jefes were plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Puerto Rican point guard Ricardo Melendez (179-83) who helped to win the game recording 31 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and Panamanian power forward Antonio Garcia (203-76, college: Ky Wesleyan) who added 12 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. American forward Dan Jennings (206-90, college: Long Beach St.) responded with 17 points and 9 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Tomas Sanchez (190, college: Idaho St.) scored 18 points and 4 assists (perfect from the field making all six shots). Five Panteras and four Jefes players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Panteras moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Abejas. Newly promoted Jefes dropped to the seventh position with four games lost. Panteras will face higher ranked Huracanes (#5) in Tampico in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
