Regular Season Round 1: Maccabi Raanana - Hapoel G/A 70-81

Date: October 21, 2014
Very significant was Hapoel Afula's 81-70 road victory against Maccabi Raanana. The game was mostly controlled by Hapoel Afula. Maccabi Raanana was better in second period 22-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hapoel Afula forced 19 Maccabi Raanana turnovers. American guard Shannon Shorter (193-89, college: N.Texas) nailed a double-double by scoring 22 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and point guard Guy Lavie (188-92) accounted for 17 points and 6 assists. American swingman Ryan Evans (203-90, college: Wisconsin) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and guard Itay Grinboim (193-85) added 12 points and 7 assists respectively for Maccabi Raanana in the defeat. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Maccabi Raanana's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Hapoel Afula will play against Maccabi K/G in Kiryat Gat in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Maccabi Raanana will play on the road against GreenTops Netanya to get more than just one victory in their record.
