Regular Season Round 3: Breakers - Taipans 76-85

An interesting game for Cairns Taipans (5-0) which played road game in Auckland against New Zealand Breakers (3-2). Cairns Taipans managed to get a 9-point victory 85-76. New Zealand Breakers were ahead by 6 points at the halftime before a 53-38 second half run of Cairns Taipans. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. It was a great evening for American guard Scottie Wilbekin (188-92, college: Florida) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists. The former international swingman Stephen Weigh (198-87) helped adding 20 points. The best for the losing side was Nigerian-American power forward Ekenechukwu Ibekwe (206-85, college: Maryland) with 15 points and 5 rebounds and American guard Cedric Jackson (191-86, college: Cleveland St.) scored 10 points and 6 assists. Five New Zealand Breakers players scored in double figures. Cairns Taipans will play against Kings in Sydney in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. New Zealand Breakers will play on the road against Adelaide 36ers in Findon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
