Regular Season Round 10: Titanicos - Pioneros 102-101

There was a surprise result when fourteenth ranked Titanicos (2-8) edged at home higher ranked Pioneros (6-4) 102-101 on Saturday. Pioneros were trailing by 4 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 31-27 charge of Titanicos, which allowed them to win the game. They made 29-of-32 free shots (90.6 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Pioneros were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for American guard Isaiah Wilkerson (190-90, college: NJIT) who helped to win the game recording 29 points and 8 assists (made all of his fifteen free throws !!!). Dominican power forward Manuel Guzman (204-82, college: Bemidji St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American power forward Justin Keenan (202-88, college: Ferris St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international swingman Romel Beck (201-82, college: UNLV, agency: Interperformances) added 23 points and 7 assists in the effort for Pioneros. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Pioneros' coach Manuel Cintron tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Newly promoted Titanicos maintains fourteenth position with 2-8 record. Pioneros at the other side keep the fifth place with four games lost. Titanicos will face higher ranked Gansos (#13) in Ciudad de Mexico in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Pioneros will play at home against Fuerza Regia (#4) having rather not much hope for a victory.
