Not a big story in a game in Tokyo where 5th ranked Toshiba Thunders (1-3) were defeated by first ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (5-1) 71-61 on Saturday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Hitachi Sunrockers dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Toshiba Thunders' 28. They outrebounded Toshiba Thunders 47-24 including a 32-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American power forward Joshua Heytvelt (210-86, college: Gonzaga) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 19 rebounds. International power forward Joji Takeuchi (207-85, agency: N.E.T.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. American guard Cedric Bozeman (198-83, college: UCLA) produced 15 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) added 9 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hitachi Sunrockers maintains first place with 5-1 record. Defending champion Toshiba Thunders dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
