The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Hamamatsu Phoenix as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Okinawa GK) loss. Hamamatsu Phoenix defeated 7th ranked Fukuoka Rizing in Mikawa 77-60. It looked good early as Fukuoka Rizing took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Hamamatsu Phoenix had a 17-13 second period charge getting the lead and Fukuoka Rizing was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 60-77. Hamamatsu Phoenix made 22-of-28 charity shots (78.6 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Fukuoka Rizing turnovers. American forward Mo Charlo (203-83, college: Nevada) orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points and 9 rebounds. Nigerian-Canadian Olu Ashaolu (200-88, college: Oregon) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winners. American forward Josh Peppers (201-85, college: Cent.Florida, agency: Court Side) replied with 17 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Cohey Aoki (167-80) added 15 points in the effort for Fukuoka Rizing. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hamamatsu Phoenix (7-1) have an impressive seven-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with 3 other teams. Fukuoka Rizing at the other side dropped to the eighth place with six games lost. They share the position with Oita H.Devils. Fukuoka Rizing will play next round against strong Okinawa GK trying to get back on the winning streak. Hamamatsu Phoenix will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
