There was no surprise when 11th ranked Sigma Barcellona (2-3) was edged at home by fifth ranked Novipiu Casale (4-1) 64-61 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 5 points after three quarters before their 18-10 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Novipiu Casale outrebounded Sigma Barcellona 41-26 including a 15-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. The former international power forward Niccolo Martinoni (202-89) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points and 9 rebounds. Lithuanian forward Povilas Butkevicius (203-87, agency: Players Group) contributed with 8 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. American point guard Alfrie Kelley (183-85, college: S.Carolina) answered with 16 points and forward Matteo Da Ros (204-89) added 8 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Sigma Barcellona. Novipiu Casale moved-up to second place, which they share with Agrigento. Loser Sigma Barcellona dropped to the ninth position with three games lost. Novipiu Casale will face C.de Latte BRE in Brescia in the next round. Sigma Barcellona will play on the road against Givova Napoli and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
