The game between closely ranked teams ended with Estudiantes O.'s (2-2) road loss to first ranked CASLA (4-1) in Almagra 70-74 on Monday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Estudiantes O. won third quarter 16-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Estudiantes O. was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American forward Jazwin Cowan (203-83, college: Hampton) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Joaquin Gamazo (195-91) contributed with 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Cowan is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four CASLA players scored in double figures. Forward Rodrigo Sanchez (200-89) replied with 16 points and 5 rebounds and American swingman Ronald Kinney (200-90, college: Walsh) added 14 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Estudiantes O.Estudiantes O.'s coach Jose Luis Pisani tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. CASLA maintains first position with 4-1 record. Newly promoted Estudiantes O. keeps the second place with two games lost. CASLA will face Sport Club in Canada de Gomez in the next round. Estudiantes O. will play on the road against Ferrocarril O. in Buenos Aires and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
