An interesting game for Toyama Grouses (8-1) which played road game in Aomori against 4th placed Aomori Watts (6-3). Second ranked Toyama Grouses managed to get a 7-point victory 78-71. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Aomori Watts. The guests trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 24-13 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Toyama Grouses made 28-of-34 free shots (82.4 percent) during the game, while Aomori Watts only scored five points from the stripe. They outrebounded Aomori Watts 47-36 including 17 on the offensive glass. 25 personal fouls committed by Aomori Watts helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 16 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Aomori Watts' coach Koshirashi Munakata rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Toyama Grouses have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Iwate Big Bulls and Kyoto Hannar. Aomori Watts at the other side dropped to the fifth place with three games lost. They share the position with Sendai 89ers. Toyama Grouses will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Aomori Watts will play again at home against the league's second-placed Toyama Grouses (#2) and are hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
