There was no surprise in Badajoz where Cafe Barco (0-2) was defeated by Arxil Pontevedra (2-0) 74-70 on Saturday. Cafe Barco was trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 18-11 charge of Arxil Pontevedra, which allowed them to win the game. Arxil Pontevedra outrebounded Cafe Barco 43-22 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Arxil Pontevedra made 10 blocks. The best player for the winners was Senegalese center Maimouna Diarra (201-91) who had a double-double by scoring 26 points, 20 rebounds and 8 blocks. Forward Maria Lago chipped in 9 points and 5 rebounds. Brazilian guard Larisse Lima (177-88) produced 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 blocks and guard Regina Gomez (173-82, agency: Josep and Nicolas) added 19 points and 8 steals respectively for the hosts. Four Cafe Barco players scored in double figures. Cafe Barco's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Arxil Pontevedra will face Maquinaria Ensino in Lugo in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Cafe Barco will play on the road against ADBA in Aviles and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
