Rather expected game in Cancun where 8th ranked Jefes (5-7) were defeated by fifth ranked Pioneros (8-4) 88-78 on Saturday. Jefes were trailing by 9 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 26-14 charge of Pioneros, which allowed them to win the game. They made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Puerto Rican point guard Denis Clemente (183-86, college: Kansas St.) who helped to win the game recording 32 points and 9 assists and American power forward Justin Keenan (202-88, college: Ferris St.) who added 21 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) during the contest. Four Pioneros players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Jordan Glynn (200-89, college: SF Austin) with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists and his fellow American import forward Dan Jennings (206-90, college: Long Beach St.) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Pioneros moved-up to third place, which they share with Halc.Xalapa. Newly promoted Jefes dropped to the ninth position with seven games lost. Pioneros will have a break next round. Jefes will play at home against Gansos (#14) and hope to win that game.
