Regular Season Round 6: TuRi - HyPo 78-90

The game in Turku was also quite interesting. Third ranked HyPo (4-2) played at the court of 6th ranked TuRi (2-4). HyPo defeated TuRi 90-78 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by HyPo. TuRi managed to win second period 22-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding TuRi to just 7 points in third quarter. HyPo made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. The former international center Taru Tuukkanen (192-77, college: Xavier, agency: Regeneracom Sports) notched 23 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and power forward Titta-Riina Lepisto (184-90) supported her with 18 points. Even a double-double of 32 points and 11 rebounds by American guard Shafontaye Myers (173-92, college: Alabama) did not help to save the game for TuRi. Tulonen Helmi added 13 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted HyPo maintains third position with 4-2 record having just two points less than leader Catz, which they share with ToPo. Loser TuRi dropped to the fifth place with four games lost. They share the position with 4 other teams. HyPo will meet league's leader Catz Lappeenranta on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. TuRi will play against the league's second-placed Peli-Karhut in Kotka and hope to secure a win.
