Regular Season Round 5: Proteas - Panathinaikos 74-60

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Panathinaikos (4-1) in Voula on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by third ranked Proteas (4-1) 74-60. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Panathinaikos. The game was mostly controlled by Proteas. Panathinaikos managed to win fourth quarter 23-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Proteas dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Panathinaikos' 34. American center Cierra Bravard (193-89, college: Florida St., agency: Josep and Nicolas) orchestrated the victory by scoring 25 points and 9 rebounds. The former international guard Lolita Lymoura (180-85) contributed with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Five Proteas players scored in double figures. Proteas' coach Alekos Daglas used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American power forward Monique Oliver (188-91, college: Rutgers) answered with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 20 rebounds and the former international guard Dimitra Kalentzou (174-78) added 18 points and 6 assists in the effort for Panathinaikos. Proteas moved-up to second place, which they share with Panathinaikos and PAOK. Proteas is looking forward to face Athinaikos (#7) in Athens in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Panathinaikos will play against Panathlitikos (#10) and is hoping to win this game.
