Regular Season Round 5: Hapoel Eilat - Maccabi Ashdod 86-88

Maccabi Ashdod can celebrate their first win this season after four consecutive loses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Eilat, where they edged Hapoel Eilat (1-4) 88-86 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 26-17 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Maccabi Ashdod forced 20 Hapoel Eilat turnovers. U.S. Virgin Islands-Puerto Rican forward Ivan Aska (200-90, college: Murray St., agency: Comsport) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and American guard Terrel Harris (195-87, college: Oklahoma St.) chipped in 19 points and 5 rebounds. Maccabi Ashdod's coach Lior Lubin used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American Khalif Wyatt (193-91, college: Temple) responded with 29 points and 4 assists and the other American import swingman Kevin Palmer (198-87, college: Texas A&M-CC, agency: Comsport) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Five Maccabi Ashdod and four Hapoel Eilat players scored in double figures. Maccabi Ashdod left bottom position moving up to tenth place, which they share with defeated Hapoel Eilat. It was Hapoel Eilat's fourth loss in a row. Maccabi Ashdod will meet at home bottom-ranked Ironi Nahariya (#12) in the next round. Hapoel Eilat will play against Maccabi Rishon in Rishon Le-Zion and hope to win that game.
