Regular Season Round 5: Asseco - Stelmet ZG 72-68

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Stelmet (3-2) against sixth ranked Asseco (4-1) on Sunday night. Visiting Stelmet was defeated by Asseco in a tough game in Gdynia 68-72. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-17. But Stelmet won second period 15-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Asseco brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. Stelmet was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American point guard A.J. Walton (184-90, college: Baylor) nailed a double-double by scoring 16 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists for the winning side and Lithuanian center Ovidijus Galdikas (217-88) accounted for 11 points, 16 rebounds and 6 blocks. American-Ukrainian guard Steven Burtt (189-84, college: Iona) came up with 20 points and the former international point guard Lukasz Koszarek (187-84) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Stelmet in the defeat. Stelmet's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Asseco. They moved-up to third place, which they share with AZS Koszalin. Stelmet at the other side dropped to the fifth position with two games lost. They share it with Rosa Radom and Polfarmex KT. Asseco will play against Energa Czarni (#10) in Slupsk in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Stelmet will play at home against Wilki Morskie (#11) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
