Leader Hitachi Sunrockers delivered the seventh victory on Sunday night. This time they beat bottom-ranked Kumamoto V. (0-6) 83-68. The game was mostly controlled by Hitachi Sunrockers. Kumamoto V. managed to win fourth quarter 26-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hitachi Sunrockers dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Kumamoto V.'s 40. They outrebounded Kumamoto V. 43-27 including 30 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a quality performance of international power forward Joji Takeuchi (207-85, agency: N.E.T.) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 7 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) and American forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga) who added 15 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. Nigerian center Cyril Awere (211-85) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds and American swingman Garlon Green (201-91, college: TCU) scored 18 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hitachi Sunrockers have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-1 record. Loser Kumamoto V. still closes the standings with six games lost. Hitachi Sunrockers will meet Tsukuba R. (#7) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Kumamoto V. will play against Dragonflies in Hiroshima and hopes to get finally their first victory.
