There was no surprise when 11th ranked Araberri (1-4) was defeated on the road by leader Meridiano Alicante (5-0) 69-64 on Sunday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Meridiano Alicante made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was power forward Alejandro Navajas (201-86) who scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. point guard Adrian Fuentes (183-87) chipped in 12 points and 4 assists. American forward Evan Yates (198-90, college: Ashland) produced 13 points and 9 rebounds and Lithuanian swingman Tadas Sedekerskis (201-98) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Meridiano Alicante have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Azpeitia. Araberri lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the thirteenth place with four games lost. Meridiano Alicante's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Alicante Meridiano Alicante.
