Regular Season Round 4: 36ers - Breakers 93-86

The most important game in the last round took place in Findon between second ranked New Zealand Breakers (4-3) and fourth ranked Adelaide 36ers (3-2) on Sunday night. New Zealand Breakers were defeated by Adelaide 36ers in a tough game on the road 86-93. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of New Zealand Breakers. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-17. But New Zealand Breakers won second period 22-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Adelaide 36ers dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to New Zealand Breakers' 38. They outrebounded New Zealand Breakers 42-31 including a 30-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Adelaide 36ers made 8 blocks. 28 personal fouls committed by New Zealand Breakers helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of international guard Adam Gibson (188-86) who helped to win the game recording 34 points (!!!), 6 rebounds, 9 assists and 6 steals and guard Brendan Teys (188-90) who added 23 points during the contest. Four Adelaide 36ers players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Cedric Jackson (191-86, college: Cleveland St.) responded with 20 points and 6 assists and New Zealand swingman Thomas Abercrombie (198-87, college: Washington St., agency: Priority Sports) scored 25 points. Adelaide 36ers moved-up to third place, which they share with Wildcats. New Zealand Breakers at the other side keep the second position with three games lost. Adelaide 36ers is looking forward to face Kings (#7) in Sydney in the next round. New Zealand Breakers will play on the road against Townsville Crocodiles (#5) in Wulguru and are hoping to win this game.
