Regular Season Round 6: Zaglebie - Astoria Bydg. 106-76

There was a surprise result in Sosnowiec where thirteenth ranked Zaglebie (2-4) smashed higher ranked Astoria Bydg. (2-4) 106-76 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Zaglebie. Astoria Bydg. was better in third quarter 33-29. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zaglebie dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Astoria Bydg.'s 42 and made 25-of-31 free shots (80.6 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Astoria Bydg. 41-22 including a 26-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Zaglebie looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Astoria Bydg. was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Marek Piechowicz (201-88) had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international Marcin Kosinski (186-85) chipped in 20 points and 6 assists during the contest. Five Zaglebie players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was power forward Sebastian Laydych (203-87) with 31 points and guard Marcin Dymala (188-90) scored 14 points and 4 assists. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zaglebie moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Astoria Bydg. and GTK Gliwice. Zaglebie will face Rosa II Radom (#13) on the road in the next round.
