There was a minor upset in Stabia where 7th ranked Civitanova (1-3) was defeated by ninth ranked Castellammare (1-4) 70-60 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 37-26 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Castellammare dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Civitanova's 28. They outrebounded Civitanova 47-35 including a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Castellammare looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 5 passes made by Civitanova's players. Bulgarian power forward Diana Voynova (194-88, college: Duquesne) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 21 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and center Maria Minervino (194-86) chipped in 13 points and 12 rebounds. Castellammare's coach Fabrizio Belfiore used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Swingman Marica Gomes (168-78) responded with 17 points and 9 rebounds and guard Federica Iannucci (172-93) scored 17 points. Newly promoted Castellammare maintains ninth place in A2 with 1-4 record. Loser Civitanova keeps the seventh position with three games lost. Castellammare will have a break next round.
