Regular Season Round 5: Ironi Nes-Ziona - Maccabi Haifa 87-72

There was no surprise in Nes Ziyona where 6th ranked Maccabi Haifa (2-3) was defeated by third ranked Ironi Nes-Ziona (4-1) 87-72. It looked good early as Maccabi Haifa took an 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Ironi Nes-Ziona had a 24-15 second period charge getting the lead and Maccabi Haifa was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-87. The former international Or Solomon (201-93) nailed 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side and American forward Craig Smith (201-83, college: Boston Coll.) accounted for 17 points and 5 rebounds. American point guard Demontez Stitt (187-89, college: Clemson) came up with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals and American-Nigerian Ike Ofoegbu (205-84, college: SMU) added 18 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Maccabi Haifa in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Maccabi Haifa's coach Rami Hadar tested ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Ironi Nes-Ziona. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Maccabi T-A and Maccabi Rishon. Maccabi Haifa at the other side keeps the sixth position with three games lost. Ironi Nes-Ziona's next round opponent will be Hapoel Holon (#5) at home. Maccabi Haifa will play against Galil Gilboa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
