Regular Season Round 2: Shanghai - Jiangsu 84-82 OT

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Jiangsu Phoenix (1-1) on the court of Shanghai Octopus on Tuesday night. Visitors were edged by Shanghai Octopus in overtime 84-82. Jiangsu Phoenix was trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 12-point lead after three quarters before a 26-14 charge of Shanghai Octopus, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 10-8. Shanghai Octopus forced 21 Jiangsu Phoenix turnovers. Guard Ni Zhang (175-84) orchestrated the victory by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 5 steals. American center Sylvia Fowles (198-85, college: LSU) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Forward Yi Qiang (193-94) replied with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 20 rebounds and international point guard Xiaojia Chen (177-88) added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Jiangsu Phoenix. Five Jiangsu Phoenix players scored in double figures. Shanghai Octopus is looking forward to face Bayi Kylin in Yinzhou in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Jiangsu Phoenix will play at home against Guangdong Dolphins and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
