Regular Season Round 1: Rio Claro - Palmeiras 72-75

A very interesting game took place in Rio Claro. It ended with only three-point home defeat of Rio Claro (0-1) to Palmeiras (1-0) 75-72 on Wednesday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Rio Claro won fourth quarter 22-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Palmeiras made 22-of-23 charity shots (95.7 percent) during the game. American power forward Steven Toyloy (203-87, college: Cincinnati) nailed a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winning side and guard Arlindo Neto (187-86) accounted for 20 points and 5 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws). The former international guard Eduardo Machado (193-82) came up with 17 points and 7 assists and point guard Eric Romualdo (185-83) added 17 points respectively for Rio Claro in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Palmeiras' next round opponent will be Winner/Limeira on the road and are hoping to win another game. Rio Claro will play against Pinheiros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
