The game between closely ranked teams ended with seventh ranked Correcaminos' (7-6) home victory over 8th ranked Gigantes (5-8) 76-61 on Thursday. The game without a history. Correcaminos led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Puerto Rican forward Joel Gierbolini (203-89, college: USC Aiken) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 18 rebounds for the winners and American forward Greg Smith (198, college: Colorado St., agency: Interperformances) chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds. Four Correcaminos players scored in double figures. At the losing side American power forward Sean Carter (205-88, college: Massachusetts) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds and American-Haitian forward James Anacreon (201-90, college: Valdosta St.) scored 14 points and 9 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Correcaminos maintains seventh place with 7-6 record. Loser Gigantes dropped to the tenth position with eight games lost. Correcaminos will meet at home higher ranked Pioneros (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gigantes will have a break next round.
