Regular Season Round 6: Vicenza - Alpo VR 53-44

There was no surprise when 6th ranked Alpo VR (2-3) was defeated on the road by third ranked Vicenza (4-1) 53-44 on Thursday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Alpo VR won third quarter 9-6. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vicenza dominated down low during the game scoring 38 of its points in the paint compared to Alpo VR's 16. They outrebounded Alpo VR 44-21 including a 34-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was swingman Laura Benko (180-83, agency: Players Group) who scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Lucia Ferri (182-85) chipped in 6 points and 12 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Giulia Monica (169-87) who recorded 21 points and 5 rebounds and guard Maria Zanella (174-92) added 11 points respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Vicenza maintains third position in A2 with 4-1 record having just -3 point less than leader Genova. Newly promoted Alpo VR keeps the sixth place with three games lost. Vicenza will face Biassono (#7) at home in the next round. Alpo VR will play against the league's leader Team Crema and hope to win that game.
