Regular Season Round 2: Rio Claro - Pinheiros/Sky 70-84

Rather expected game when Rio Claro (0-2) lost at home to Pinheiros (1-0) 84-70. After very bad start, Rio Claro stormed back in the second period cutting the deficit to 3 points 38-35. But it was not enough and Pinheiros took back the control in second half. They shot 60.7 percent from the field. They also forced 20 Rio Claro turnovers. It was a great shooting night for Pinheiros especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 61.1 percentage. The best player for the winners was American point guard Joe Smith (193-77, college: Al.-Huntsville) who scored 21 points and 4 steals. Naturalized Italian point guard Paulinho Boracini (183-84) chipped in 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Pinheiros' coach Marcel de Souza allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The former international guard Eduardo Machado (193-82) produced 14 points and 6 assists and Caio Ranches (192-87) added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Pinheiros' next round opponent will be Sao Jose/Vinac on the road and it may be the game of the week. Rio Claro will play against Liga Sorocaba in Sorocabana and hope to win that game.
