Round 4 in D1 means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Egilsstadir where host Hottur (4-1) beat league's leader Hamar (3-1) 76-70 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Hamar. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 19-9 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Hottur made 8 blocks. American guard Tobin Carberry (193-91, college: LIU Post) fired a triple-double by scoring 24 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners. Forward Hreinn Birgisson (190-89) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks. Carberry is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American guard Julian Nelson (190, college: Coker) produced 17 points and 8 rebounds and forward Thorsteinn Gunnlaugsson (190-82) added 19 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Hamar's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Hottur keeps a position of league leader. Hamar at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They share the position with IA. They were replaced at the leadership position by Hottur. Hamar will play next round against strong IA trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Hottur will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked FSU in Selfoss.
