Regular Season Round 14: Correcaminos - Pioneros 89-84

Another exciting game for Correcaminos (8-6) which hosted in Ciudad Victoria against 4th ranked Pioneros (9-5). Seventh ranked Correcaminos won 89-84. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Pioneros. Pioneros were tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. It was a great shooting night for Correcaminos especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. Puerto Rican forward Joel Gierbolini (203-89, college: USC Aiken) had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American point guard Marquis Ayala (178) chipped in 22 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) during the contest. Four Correcaminos players scored in double figures. Correcaminos' coach Andres Contreras allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American power forward Justin Keenan (202-88, college: Ferris St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds (on 14-of-18 shooting from the field) and the former international forward Stephen Soriano (200-85, college: Colorado Mesa) scored 19 points. Correcaminos maintains seventh position with 8-6 record. Pioneros at the other side dropped to the third place with five games lost. They share the position with Fuerza Regia and Halc.Xalapa. Correcaminos will play against league's leader Soles in Mexicali in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Pioneros will have a break next round.
