Regular Season Round 8: TuRi - ToPo 54-82

No shocking result in a game in Turku where third ranked Torpan Pojat (6-2) smashed 9th ranked TuRi (2-6) 82-54 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 9-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 82-54. Torpan Pojat dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to TuRi's 34. Torpan Pojat forced 20 TuRi turnovers and outrebounded them 53-35 including a 45-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international power forward Niina Laaksonen (185-85) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 28 points and 18 rebounds and international swingman Heta Korpivaara (186-84, college: Seton Hall, agency: Regeneracom Sports) who added 20 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. Four Torpan Pojat players scored in double figures. American guard Shafontaye Myers (173-92, college: Alabama) responded with 29 points and 6 steals and forward Ida Myllyoja (180-96) scored 10 points. TuRi's coach Jukka Valpola gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Torpan Pojat have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with PeKa. TuRi lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with six games lost. They share it with Pyrinto. Torpan Pojat will meet at home HyPo (#4) in the next round. TuRi will play against Aanekosken (#5) in Aanekoski and hope to secure a win.
