Regular Season Round 7: Parnu - Valga Kalev 82-78

There was no surprise when 8th ranked Valga Kalev (1-4) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked KK Parnu (4-3) 82-78 on Sunday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 23-10. But Valga Kalev won second period 24-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when KK Parnu won last quarter 21-19. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 26 personal fouls committed by Valga Kalev helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Naturalized American forward Renato Lindmets (200-84, college: Westfield St.) fired a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Lithuanian Ronaldas Rutkauskas (203-92) chipped in 20 points and 9 rebounds. Latvian center Jurijs Aleksejevs (202-85) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and Latvian guard Reinis Strupovics (192-87) added 18 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Valga Kalev players scored in double figures. KK Parnu moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Tarvas. Valga Kalev at the other side keeps the eighth position with four games lost. KK Parnu will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Valga Kalev will play on the road against TTU in Tallinn and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
