Regular Season Round 6: Athinaikos - Proteas 60-61

The most exciting game of round 6 in the A1 took place in Athens. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 7th ranked Athinaikos (2-5) to second ranked Proteas (6-1) 61-60 on Sunday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 17-9. But Athinaikos won second period 12-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Proteas had a 18-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. The former international swingman Olga Hatzinkolaou (181-81, agency: Josep and Nicolas) had a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American center Cierra Bravard (193-89, college: Florida St., agency: Josep and Nicolas) chipped in 20 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was Montenegrin center Hajdana Radunovic (192-78) with 9 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Theodora Panteli (183-87, college: Binghamton) scored 6 points and 14 rebounds. Proteas have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 6-1 record behind leader AE Ellinikou, which they share with Panathinaikos. Athinaikos lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with five games lost. They share the position with Anagenisi. Proteas is looking forward to face Ippokratis (#6) in the next round. Athinaikos will play against Panathlitikos and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
