The game in Wulguru was also quite interesting. Second ranked New Zealand Breakers (6-3) played at the court of 5th ranked Townsville Crocodiles (3-4). New Zealand Breakers managed to secure a 7-point victory 87-80 on Sunday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 35-19. But Townsville Crocodiles won second period 22-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Townsville Crocodiles 33-17 including a 24-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for New Zealand Breakers especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. American guard Cedric Jackson (191-86, college: Cleveland St.) stepped up and scored 16 points and 5 assists for the winners and Nigerian-American power forward Ekenechukwu Ibekwe (206-85, college: Maryland) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Five New Zealand Breakers players scored in double figures. The former international forward Todd Blanchfield (200-91) responded with 23 points and international swingman Clint Steindl (200-89, college: St.Mary's, CA) scored 15 points. New Zealand Breakers maintains second place with 6-3 record having just -2 point less than leader Taipans. Loser Townsville Crocodiles keep the fifth position with four games lost. New Zealand Breakers will meet at home bottom-ranked Wollongong Hawks (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Townsville Crocodiles will play against Perth Wildcats and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
