Regular Season Round 6: Anwil - Trefl Sopot 56-87
Date: November 9, 2014
Everything could happen in Wloclawek at the game between two tied teams. Both fourteenth ranked Trefl and 13th ranked Anwil had identical 1-4 record. But Anwil was not able to use a home court advantage and was crushed by the opponent from Sopot 87-56 on Sunday night. The game without a history. Trefl led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Anwil's 28. They outrebounded Anwil 40-20 including a 30-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Lithuanian point guard Sarunas Vasiliauskas (187-89, agency: Alti Sport) who scored 19 points and 7 assists. Lithuanian center Tautvydas Lydeka (208-83) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Deonta Vaughn (185-86, college: Cincinnati) who recorded 14 points and Italian center Andrea Crosariol (210-84, college: Fair Dickinson) added 11 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Trefl (2-4) moved-up to tenth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Anwil dropped to the fourteenth position with five games lost. Trefl will face higher ranked Stelmet (#6) in Zielona Gora in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Anwil will play on the road against the league's leader PGE Turow (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
