Regular Season Round 6: Panathinaikos - Panathlitikos 89-50
Date: November 9, 2014
Bottom-ranked Panathlitikos (0-7) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their seventh consecutive match to third ranked Panathinaikos (6-1) 89-50 on Sunday evening. The game without a history. Panathinaikos led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Panathlitikos' 24 and made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Panathlitikos 46-24 including a 34-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Panathinaikos looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Panathlitikos' players. The best player for the winners was American power forward Monique Oliver (188-91, college: Rutgers) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds. The former international forward Sofia Kiriakopoulou (185-81) chipped in 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Panathinaikos players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Tia Gibbs (176, college: Louisville) who recorded 18 points and guard Elisavet Kotoula (171-94) added 5 points respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Panathinaikos moved-up to second place, which they share with Proteas. Newly promoted Panathlitikos still closes the standings with seven games lost. Panathinaikos will meet PAOK (#4) in the next round. Panathlitikos will play against Athinaikos (#8) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
