Everything went according to plan when fourth ranked Irpino (4-2) edged 9th ranked Castellammare (1-5) in Stabia 64-62 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 15-11 charge, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time and get a 2-point victory in overtime. Irpino forced 26 Castellammare turnovers. It was a very good performance for naturalized Brazilian swingman Tayara Madonna (170-91) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 5 steals. Naturalized Serbian forward Marija Micovic (180-82, agency: Players Group) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Four Irpino players scored in double figures. Bulgarian power forward Diana Voynova (194-88, college: Duquesne) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 20 rebounds and guard Nadia Calamai (172-86) added 10 points and 6 steals in the effort for Castellammare. Castellammare's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Irpino maintains fourth place in A2 with 4-2 record. Newly promoted Castellammare keeps the ninth position with five games lost. Irpino will face league's second-placed Marinella in Santa Marinella in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Castellammare will play at home against Viterbo (#5) and hope to win that game.
