Regular Season Round 7: Haukar - KR 72-66
Date: November 12, 2014
Very expected game in Hafnarfjordur where 8th ranked KR (1-6) was defeated by second ranked Haukar (6-1) 72-66 on Wednesday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 16-15 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Haukar made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game, while KR only scored six points from the stripe. Haukar forced 20 KR turnovers and outrebounded them 55-38 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. American swingman Lele Hardy (182-88, college: Clemson) fired a double-double by scoring 40 points (!!!), 29 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals for the winners. Forward Maria Sigurdardottir (178-89) chipped in 11 points and 8 rebounds. Haukar's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Simone Holmes produced 28 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and center Andrea Fridriksdottir (182) added 7 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Haukar. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Keflavik and Snaefell. Loser KR stay at the bottom place with six games lost. They share the position with Breidablik and Hamar. Haukar will meet at home Snaefell (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. KR's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Reykjavik to the arena Valur.
