Regular Season Round 6: Keflavik - IR 87-82
Date: November 13, 2014
There was no surprise when 10th ranked IR (1-5) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Keflavik (4-2) 87-82 on Thursday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 6 points at the halftime before their 54-43 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Keflavik made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Keflavik made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American swingman William Graves (198-88, college: N.Carolina) who scored 39 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Naturalized American forward Damon Johnson (196-74, college: Tennessee) chipped in 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Keflavik's coach Helgi Jonas Gudfinnsson used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Matthias Sigurdarson (185-94, college: Flagler) who recorded 20 points and 6 assists and forward Vilhjalmur Jonsson (198-91) added 15 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Five IR players scored in double figures. Keflavik moved-up to third place, which they share with Haukar. Loser IR keeps the tenth position with five games lost. Keflavik will face league's second-placed Tindastoll in Sauoarkrokur in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.
