Regular Season Round 10: Kumamoto V. - Mitsubishi DD 66-82

There was no surprise when bottom-ranked Kumamoto V. (0-10) was defeated at home by second ranked Mitsubishi Dolphins (7-3) 82-66 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Mitsubishi Dolphins. Kumamoto V. was better in third quarter 23-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Kumamoto V. to just 7 points in first quarter. Kumamoto V. was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Brendan Lane (206-90, college: Pepperdine) scored 25 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international guard Kei Igarashi (180-80) chipped in 15 points and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side Nigerian center Cyril Awere (211-85) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 16 rebounds and John Shibata scored 19 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mitsubishi Dolphins maintains second position with 7-3 record having just three points less than leader Hitachi SR, which they share with Hiroshima D. Kumamoto V. at the other side still closes the standings with ten games lost. Mitsubishi Dolphins will face league's second-placed Dragonflies in Hiroshima in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Kumamoto V. will play on the road against Hyogo S. (#4) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
