Sixth-ranked Hokkaido L. (2-10) gave a tough game to first ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (11-1) in Tokyo on Friday. Hitachi Sunrockers managed to secure only six-point victory 92-86. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Hokkaido L. won third quarter 21-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Hokkaido L. used huge pressure winning it 22-18 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 6-12. Hitachi Sunrockers dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Hokkaido L.'s 44. American power forward Joshua Heytvelt (210-86, college: Gonzaga) had a double-double by scoring 32 points and 12 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) during the contest. Four Hitachi Sunrockers players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Jerome Tillman (201-87, college: Ohio, agency: KMG Sports Management) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 13 rebounds and guard Asahi Tajima (173-88) scored 17 points and 7 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Hitachi Sunrockers have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 11-1 record. Hokkaido L. lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with ten games lost. Hitachi Sunrockers' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tokyo to the arena Toyota Alvark.
