Regular Season Round 6: Foshan LL - Guangdong ST 116-123

Very expected game when 12th ranked Foshan (2-4) was defeated at home by fourth ranked Guandong Tigers (5-1) 123-116. The guests were already 11 points ahead at halftime and as many as 13 after three quarters before a 39-33 last quarter charge of Foshan cut the lead to 123-116 at the end of the game. Guandong Tigers dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to Foshan's 44. They outrebounded Foshan 37-25 including 23 on the defensive glass. Guandong Tigers players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. 27 personal fouls committed by Foshan helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for DR Congolese guard Emmanuel Mudiay (196-96) who led his team to a victory with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. International Jianlian Yi (212-87) contributed with 21 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Nigerian-American point guard Josh-Emmanuel Akognon (180-86, college: CS Fullerton) replied with 28 points and Lebanese swingman Fadi Khatib (199-79) added 26 points and 4 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) in the effort for Foshan. Four Guandong Tigers and five Foshan players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Guandong Tigers have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Beijing Ducks and Xinjiang FT. Foshan at the other side keeps the twelfth position with four games lost. Guandong Tigers' next round opponent will be Sichuan BW (#12) at home and are hoping to win another game. Foshan will play against Bayi Rockets in Ningbo and hope to win that game.
