Bottom-ranked Rio Claro (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 94-89 overtime loss to twelfth ranked Paulistano (2-2) in Sao Paolo on Friday evening. Rio Claro trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 26-12 run in the last quarter tied the game at the end of regular time, But then they lost eventually overtime period 10-15. Paulistano forced 26 Rio Claro turnovers and had a 20-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Kenny Dawkins (175-87, college: Lamar) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 7 rebounds and Pilar Alves (201-84) who added 18 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side the former international center Lucas Tischer (208-83) responded with 20 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Eric Romualdo (185-83) scored 19 points and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Paulistano moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Liga Sorocaba. Loser Rio Claro still closes the standings with four games lost. Paulistano will meet Paschoalotto/Bauru (#10) on the road in the next round. Rio Claro will play against the league's leader Sao Jose/Vinac (#1) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
